How We Built The Final Cut Pro Shortcuts Web App

This web app combines HTML, CSS and JavaScript to create an interactive reference guide. Here's how it works:

The Data:

We start with a large JavaScript object that contains all the shortcuts. These are organized by categories, with each shortcut having a command name and its keyboard combination. All of this data lives in the JavaScript code.

The Search System:

When someone types in the search box, JavaScript listens for each keystroke. It immediately searches through all the shortcuts, looking for matches in the command names. As you type, it filters the results in real-time, showing only the matching shortcuts.

Category Display:

All shortcuts are organized into collapsible categories. When you click a category, JavaScript toggles its visibility, expanding or collapsing the section. This makes it easy to browse through related shortcuts.

How The Code Works:

1. The page loads with all shortcuts hidden inside their categories
2. Clicking a category triggers JavaScript to show/hide that section
3. Typing in search immediately triggers the filter function
4. The filter function searches all commands and displays matches
5. Results are shown with the keyboard shortcut first, then the command name

Everything is in one file (index.html) which contains:

• HTML for the structure
• CSS for the styling
• JavaScript for the functionality

The app works without any external dependencies - it doesn't need to load anything else or connect to any databases. This makes it fast and reliable.
